Kazanlak is situated in the picturesque Valley of Roses, at the southern foothills of Stara Planina Mountains. It is worldwide famous as the centre of the rose-oil manufacture The oleaginous rose, or Rosa Damascene, was brought from the Middle East, about three centuries ago. To produce a kilo of Rose water, a kilogram of rose blooms is needed, but for the extraction of a kilogram of rose oil-about 3500 kilograms. The rose attar, extracted from the rose blooms is of unique quality even to this day. On the first week-end of June, every year, the Festival of roses takes place in the town and attracts many tourists from all over the world-Japan, France etc. People choose “The Queen of Roses” Nature has combined here the beauty and magnificence of the Balkan with the fertile valley of the river Tundja In ancient times, the territory and vicinity of present –day Kazanlak was the cradle of rich Thracian culture, that was confirmed by the numerous Thracian tombs and other recent finding. The Thracian tomb of Kazanlak, The ancient capital of the Thracian ruler, SEUT III, is hidden under the waters of the near dam Koprinka. The hospitable Kazanlak is the birthplace of many famous talented artists: Dechko Uzunov, Nenko Balkanski, Tchudomir, Ivan Milev. The attractive park Tulbeto with the famous Thracian tomb, the Ethnographical museum, the Historical museum, the Art gallery, many churches and old houses are worth visiting. Kazanlak has a well-developed industry: pneumatics, hydraulics, the biggest factories producing woolens, sewing-cotton and rayon settle here.
